Grandson of former Louisville Mayor, Kentucky Lt. Governor, and Truman Housing Czar Wilson Wyatt to seek state office.
Frankfort, KY – December 14, 2023: Kentucky educator William “Woody” Zorn filed paperwork today to run for State Representative in Kentucky’s 36th District. Zorn’s grandfather, Wilson Wyat, was the Mayor of Louisville in the early 1940s before joining the Truman Administration as the United States Housing Expediter for the Office of War Mobilization. He later served as the 43rd Lt. Governor of Kentucky under Gov. Bert Combs.
“It is not just a calling to serve the public when your grandfather is someone like Wilson Wyat, whom Governor Ned Breathit called the “Number-One Citizen” of Kentucky. For our family, public service runs in our blood,” Zorn said.
Zorn is an award-winning educator and speech & debate coach. He attended the University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University, and Indiana University Southeast. He serves on the Wyat Debate League board, and Kentucky High School Speech League board and previously served the KEA 5th District board.
In discussing his reasons for running, Zorn said, “Much of our political leadership has failed to rise to the occasion, pursuing personal desires and political gain over the public good.” He added, “Granddaddy always told me, ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say about the job someone is doing, keep your mouth shut or be prepared to step up and do the job yourself.’ Well, that is what I am doing.”
Zorn anticipates that the upcoming race will be marked by several key issues, including drug abuse and public safety, affordable housing, and schools.
“The legislature often tries to appear to address problems without attacking the root causes. Fixing problems is more challenging than simply acting like something is being done,” Zorn said. “I know getting results isn’t going to be easy. It will take dedication, hard work, and courage, but most things in life that are worth having are hard to come by.”
Zorn and his wife Angela are both educators and live in Louisville. For more informaton about his campaign, you can visit his website, Woody4KY.com, or social media @Woody4KY.
